Gravity die casting

• It is also called as permanent mould casting
• The sand moulds cannot be reused.
• Permanent mould are made of several parts to remove easily.
• Runner and riser are used.
• The mould cavity is coated with refractory materials.
• When the molten metal is poured it fills into the  cavity by the gravity.
• After the metal is solidified the die is split and the casting is removed.

Advantages

• Fast process
• Good surface finish
• Low production cost
• Accuracy

Disadvantages

• Removal of casting is difficult
• Suitable for simple casting

Applications

• This method is used for producing automobile parts.
