Gravity die casting
- It is also called as permanent mould
casting
- The sand moulds cannot be reused.
- Permanent mould are made of several
parts to remove easily.
- Runner and riser are used.
- The mould cavity is coated with
refractory materials.
- When the molten metal is poured it
fills into the cavity by the gravity.
- After the metal is solidified the die
is split and the casting is removed.
Advantages
- Fast process
- Good surface finish
- Low production cost
- Accuracy
Disadvantages
- Removal of casting is difficult
- Suitable for simple casting
Applications
- This method
is used for producing automobile parts.
